DIA Invests in SJC Bio, Revolutionary Biomaterial Enabling True Same-Day Dental Implants

February 2, 2026

Dental Innovation Alliance VC Fund I, LP (DIA), a venture capital fund at the forefront of investing in the $450B dental industry, announces a strategic investment in SJC Bio, Inc. SJC Bio is an innovative biomaterials company developing OsseoCem, a rapid-setting, load-bearing bone graft cement that enables permanent crowns to be loaded onto dental implants in minutes rather than the months required under the existing standard of care. The investment expands DIA's portfolio of transformative dental technologies, addressing the critical challenge of implant healing time that significantly impacts practice productivity, patient satisfaction, and access to care.

Approximately 5 million dental implants are placed in the United States each year, with the healing process traditionally requiring three to six months and numerous patient visits. SJC Bio's OsseoCem addresses this fundamental industry constraint by providing immediate load-bearing stability at the time of implant placement while maintaining mechanical strength as the cement is replaced by natural bone at a rate aligned with the patient's biology. This breakthrough enables the abutment and permanent crown to be placed during the same visit as the implant, transforming what has been a multi-month, multi-visit process into a single appointment.

"The dental implant healing timeline has remained essentially unchanged for decades, representing one of the most significant barriers to patient satisfaction and practice efficiency," says Thomas Sharpe, DIA Co-Founder and Managing Partner. "SJC Bio's OsseoCem has the potential to fundamentally redefine the standard of care in implant dentistry. Their technology doesn't just incrementally improve the process - it eliminates the primary constraint entirely. This represents exactly the kind of category-creating innovation that drives lasting competitive advantages for early adopters and transforms patient outcomes."

"OsseoCem addresses a clinical need that has been considered unsolvable by providing immediate mechanical stability during implant healing without compromising biological integration," says Kate Orr, DIA Principal. "The technology's ability to maintain load-bearing strength while being replaced by natural bone positions it as a truly revolutionary advancement."

"Partnering with DIA provides us with more than just capital - it gives us access to an unparalleled network of dental industry experts and strategic guidance," says Robert Schultz, CEO of SJC Bio. "Their deep understanding of the dental ecosystem and proven track record of supporting transformative technologies will accelerate our path from development through commercialization as we work to make same-day implants a reality for dentists and patients."

With DIA's investment and strategic support, SJC Bio is positioned to advance OsseoCem through additional clinical studies and regulatory preparation, with the goal of establishing a new standard of care that expands the addressable market from the current 40% of implant procedures requiring grafting to potentially 70-80% of all procedures where immediate loading becomes clinically achievable and economically compelling.
